THE SMOKY EYE...A Step By Step How To...
The smoky eye is easily one of the most requested techniques in make-up. And, believe it or not, the look
is exceptionally versatile. Done lightly, it will add easy sex appeal, done in color, it will add exotic romance
and done heavily, it can turn any woman into a sultry, screen goddess. With so many choices, what’s not
to love?
The proper smoky eye technique is a tool that every woman should have in her arsenal. Below you will
find my guidelines, but feel free to play and experiment, after all, there are no rules in make-up.
The Classic Smoky Eye
Step 1: Prep
If you want your eye shadow to stay just as you placed it, for more than a few hours, it is absolutely
necessary to prime the lid. I love the Photo Shoot. The amazing mattifying cream will instantly smooth
your lid for better lay of product, it will prevent creasing and it will add incredible longevity to your
shadows.
Step 2: Base Shadow.
Using the Oval Shadow Brush, sweep a generous amount of In The Buff from the lash line to the brow
bone. This initial lay of color will brighten and open the entire eye area. It will also facilitate better blending
of all the colors that will come after it.
Step 3: Lid Shadow.
Using the Oval Fluff Brush, lay Flower Child across the entire lid, from the lash line to the crease. (The
crease is the spot where the eye and the socket meet.) Turn the brush on its side and apply the same
color below the lower lash line.
Step 4: Mid-Tone Color.
Using the Shadow Blender Brush, apply Ginger in the crease. As you reach the outer corner of the eye,
pull the color down toward the lash line. This step begins to add the depth and dimension that the smoky
eye is known for.
Step 5: Crease.
Using the Oval Fluff Brush, sweep Black Out over the crease and down toward the lash line at the outer
corner of the eye. The key here is to blend. By sweeping the brush back and forth several times, the
Black Out will stay strongest in the crease while it’s edges fade into the Ginger.
Step 6: Blend.
Sweep a clean Shadow Blender Brush over the entire lid 2 or 3 times. This will smooth out any hard lines
and invite the colors to blend one into the next.
Step 7: Eyeliner.
Dampen the Angled Eyeliner Brush and use Black Out to line both the upper and lower lash lines. On the
outer third of both the upper and lower lash sweep 2 to 3 extra washes of color. This will add that sexy
depth to the outer corner. If you want to go all the way, use the Angled Eyeliner Brush to tap Black Out
onto the inner rim of the lower lash line. Tip: If your eyes are small, skip this step. Lining the inner rim of
small eyes will only make them look smaller.
Step 8: Mascara.
Go for it girls! Give those babies coat after luscious coat. With the smoky eye, there is no such thing as
too much mascara. Wait, I take that back…if they clump, you have gone too far. Take them to one swipe
before clumping and you will have applied the perfect amount. Very soon, Mascara with Enormous Lash
Ingredients will be available.
One last tip: Since the eye application is heavy, you should be certain the remainder of your make-up is
light. This will keep you from looking overdone and clownish. Pair the smoky eye with a gentle application
of blush (Euphoric is a perfect choice) and a neutral Lip Glisten (Chaos or Infamous are sure to please).
There you have it. Now get out there and rock that smoky eye!
A Beauty Guide to All Things Lips…
Since the mouth is one of the main focal points of the face, it is very important that you know exactly how
to dress it. Read on to learn the tricks of the trade….
Caring for the lips….
1. Don’t smoke. The carcinogenic fumes do much more than damage the lungs. They age and wrinkle the
face, especially around the mouth and lip area. Smoking may relax you, but it will have you looking 10 or
more years older than your friends. I know a lot of you aren’t going to listen to me, but in my opinion, it
just isn’t worth it.
2. Exfoliate. Dry older layers of skin will make lips appear dull the same way they do the face. To keep
your lips looking fresh and bright, gently buff them with a damp toothbrush once or twice a week. To keep
them really soft, work the Crystal Ball into your lips when you are exfoliating your face. Your lips will be so
soft your husbands (boyfriends, lovers and everyone) else will want a few more kisses.
3. Restore. Who doesn’t love LIP JOB? Not only does it feel great, but it also plumps, smoothes and
resurfaces the mouth.
Choosing your fool-proof everyday shade…
This is an area where many women often have a hard time. I think this is why so many ladies out there
cleave desperately to your favorite lip color when you finally find it.
When picking your everyday shade, choose one that is close in tone to the hue of your natural lip color.
Its color should not jump out at you; it should simply look like a better and more enhanced version of your
natural lip. When you have chosen the right shade, your whole face will look brighter and more lifted.
More dramatic shades are easier to choose because they are made to show drama and mood.
Remember when choosing these that there are no mistakes. As the late, great Coco Chanel said, "The
best color in the whole world, is the one that looks good, on you!”
Lip Liner…
1. Choose a color. Most often, it should be a color that matches the natural lip color. If you're trying to
add definition or depth, go with a color that matches the lipstick or is a shade or two deeper. If you are
going with that option, proceed with caution. Many women forget to reapply their lipstick only to be left
with a deep colorful ring around the mouth. (I know you’ve seen it too! It’s not flattering.)
2. Starting at outer corner, line to the center of the top lip. Repeat, starting at other corner.
3. Repeat across the lower lip.
4. For added depth, line slightly under then center of the lower lip (the puffy/pouty area)
5. Go back and fill in any spots that were missed or have gaps. Using your finger/brush/cotton swab,
blend the color into the lip. This will diffuse the color so it fades into the lips natural color and the end
result will be more flattering when lipstick or gloss are applied. (and it will be less jarring if you forget to
reapply your lipstick or glisten throughout the day).
Lipstick…
Whether you will be using your flawless everyday color or a more dramatic shade, the application remains
the same.
1. Begin at the outer corner of the upper lip and apply (either from the tube or on a brush) color to the
entire upper and lower lip area.
2. Using a small lip brush, sweep the color right to the edge of the lip line. This will ensued that the mouth
is enhanced perfectly.
3. Be sure to apply color right into the corners of the mouth. Many women forget this step and it take
away a great deal of the fullness of the lip.
4. Press your lips together to blend and evenly distribute the color.
Lip Glisten…
1. Lip Glisten can be applied either directly from the tube, with a brush or with your finger.
2. Begin in the center of the lower lip and sweep the color out to the corners.
3. Repeat on the upper lip.
4. Finishing touch. Wipe the edges of the lips with your finger after applying.
Tips and Tricks…
To extend the wear of lipstick and/or Lip Glisten, line and fill in the entire lip with a pencil that matches the
natural lip color. This base will hold colors in place.
Use a lip pencil on the outer edge of the lip after applying lipstick/Lip Glisten to create a softer definition.
Use your finger to press your lipstick/Lip Glisten into your lip; this will create a fresh-looking stain that will
last.
Using a darker shade of Lip Glisten to add subtle drama to a natural look.
To create the appearance of pouty lips, apply a medium to deep toned lipstick or Glisten over the entire
mouth. Add a second shade that is one or two hues lighter, only in the center of the lower lip. Don’t rub
them together. The lighter shade will catch more light making the center of the mouth look plumper. This
trick also makes thin lips look fuller.
Keep the Lip Glisten and lipstick on your lips and off your teeth. After applying, place your finger in your
mouth, close your lips and pull your finger out. Problem solved.
Apply Lip Glisten alone to give the lips a beautiful, natural shine. Apply over lipstick to add more
dimension, drama and pop!
Change your Glistens and lipsticks into an endless world of color…
1. Tap eye shadow or blush into your lipstick or Glisten. Not only will this give you your own custom color,
it will also add longevity to the wear of the color.
2. If you want to achieve a lipstick or Lip Glisten's true color, use a sponge to tap a light layer of
foundation over the lips before applying. The sheerer the Glisten, the more your natural lip color will alter
the color.
3. Changing the color of the pencil, or lipstick will dramatically change the color of the Lip Glisten that
goes on over it. Experiment and have fun with it!
